The first snow has hushed all sounds on this early fall morning. The air is crisp and clean.
This mature female Canadian lynx has been carefully stalking a plump grouse from the hidden safety of thick underbrush. She has just sprung into action in her fruitless pursuit.
If you follow her line of vision off to the right of her outstreched paw, you will see that her eyes are on the airborne path of the bird's narrow escape. A few feathers on the ground are testimony that she's just missed.
She is at one with her environment. The three cat tail plants mirroring her own stubby tail as well as the tufts on her ears. Her thick coat blending in with her surroundings.
